At Lucy + Lola, I create and sell all types of jewelry, including pieces that are gold plated and silver plated or filled. Gold plated and gold filled styles are ideal for every day wear because they give the look of solid gold or silver, at a fraction of the price. Gold-plated jewelry has a layer of gold over another metal, so when that layer wears down, the base metal is revealed. Gold-filled jewelry, on the other hand, mixes gold with sterling silver, permanently bonding the metals together.
I want your jewelry to last as long as possible! Special care is required in order to preserve the gold plating on your as long as possible. Below are some tips to keep your jewelry looking their best:
- After showering, using lotion, or any other body product, wait until your product or body is completely dry before slipping on your accessories. Some products can have a negative reaction with gold-plating and can cause changes in color or texture.
- Always apply perfume before putting on your jewelry. Perfume chemicals can react with the metal and cause a change in the appearance, so you don’t want to spray it directly on your pieces!
- Don't sleep, shower, swim or do the dishes in your gold-plated jewelry. Keep them free and dry of liquids when possible.
- When traveling or not wearing your accessories, make sure to store them in a jewelry case or wrapped up in a soft cloth to prevent scratching.
